Position Title: EHS Specialist
Reports To: EHS Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Shift: 12-Hour Days (Shift Schedule to be Determined)
Position Summary:The EHS Specialist supports the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs at a large‑scale switch gear manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for promoting a safe work environment, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations, and providing on‑the‑floor support to production, fabrication, assembly, testing, and warehouse operations. The role may be entry‑level with appropriate training provided or suited for candidates with prior EHS experience in manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform routine EHS inspections across all site operations, including fabrication, machining, powder coating, assembly, electrical testing, and warehouse areas.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and company‑specific EHS requirements.
- Assist in machine safeguarding inspections and corrective action tracking for fabrication and assembly equipment.
- Support the powder coating operation by monitoring ventilation, PPE usage, and safe handling of coating materials.
- Provide EHS oversight during live electrical testing, including ensuring proper use of barriers, signage, and NFPA 70E safe work practices for low voltage applications.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action tracking.
- Conduct forklift safety observations and verify compliance in warehouse and material handling areas.
- Assist in maintaining EHS documentation, training records, inspection logs, and permits.
- Deliver or coordinate safety training for employees and contractors as assigned.
- Implement and support the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program, including training, auditing, and compliance monitoring.
- Assist in the implementation and auditing of fall protection programs, including hands‑on training and equipment inspections.
- Support emergency response coordination, including drills, response team readiness, and communication with external emergency services.
- Provide conservative care treatment for minor workplace injuries in alignment with company protocols (if trained and authorized).
- Respond to workplace emergencies, administer first aid/CPR/AED if certified, and coordinate with emergency services as needed.
- Support environmental compliance activities, including waste management, spill prevention, and recycling programs.
- Participate in and lead special projects and initiatives related to Environmental, Health, and Safety activities, including program development, process improvements, and compliance initiatives, as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to work 12‑hour day shifts and adapt to rotating or fixed schedules.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office or equivalent).
- Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment, including fabrication areas, paint booths, assembly lines, and test bays.
- Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire.
- Associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in occupational safety, environmental science, or related field.
- Prior experience in EHS within a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of machine safeguarding requirements and hazard control methods.
- Familiarity with powder coating processes and associated safety precautions.
- Experience working with forklift operations and warehouse safety standards.
- NFPA 70E low voltage safety training or equivalent experience.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry certification.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, and airborne particulates (with appropriate PPE provided).
- This position is based in a high‑volume switch gear manufacturing facility with fabrication, coating, assembly, and electrical test areas.
- May require use of PPE including safety glasses, steel‑toe shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and respiratory protection.
