Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years hands‑on experience with Juniper and Cisco networking hardware, including configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, and migrations.
- Proven experience leading network migration projects, especially Juniper to Cisco.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco security appliances (e.g., ASA, Firepower, ISE) and best practices.
- Experience supporting daily network operations in an enterprise environment.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and network security protocols.
- Cisco CCNP or higher certification
- Experience in large-scale enterprise network environments.
- Familiarity with datacenter management tools (e.g., Device
42).
A large networking company is seeking an experienced Network Engineer with strong expertise in both Juniper and Cisco networking hardware to join their IT team. This role’s primary responsibility is to lead and execute the migration of existing Juniper hardware to Cisco networking and security infrastructure, as well as to support day‑to‑day network operations. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting Cisco switches, routers, and security appliances, and possess solid hands‑on experience with Juniper devices.
This position is based in Fulton, MD, with occasional travel to co‑location facility in Ashburn, VA.
What You’ll Do- Provide daily operational support for network infrastructure, including monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting for both legacy (Juniper) and new (Cisco) systems.
- Respond to and resolve network incidents, ensuring optimal network performance and reliability.
- Perform routine hardware and software upgrades, patches, and preventive maintenance.
- Assist with ongoing management of network assets, including accurate updates to asset management systems.
- Install, configure, and optimize Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and other networking/security devices.
- Integrate Cisco hardware into existing infrastructures, ensuring interoperability and compliance with organizational standards.
- Maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation of network topologies, device configurations, daily operations, and migration activities.
- Update asset management records to reflect all changes in hardware and configurations.
- Implement and manage Cisco security solutions to ensure robust network protection.
- Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability mitigation as part of ongoing maintenance.
