Summary of Position

The AVP, Automation Services is responsible for leading the planning, development, and implementation of automation solutions across the organization. This role manages a team of automation engineers and analysts, ensuring the delivery of high-quality automation initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and align with enterprise technology standards and strategic objectives. The AVP of Automation Services works closely with business stakeholders, IT leadership, and cross-functional teams to prioritize automation opportunities, standardize best practices, and measure outcomes.

Principal Accountabilities and Functions

Manages the operation of the Automation Services area to include design, development, and deployment of automation solutions, including RPA, workflow automation, and CI/CD enhancements. Manages the Automation services area to assure a trained, motivated, professional staff capable of providing the skills necessary to support and accomplish Tower’s strategic goals.

Supports the development and execution of enterprise automation strategy, aligning with business objectives and Tower’s strategic goals.

Oversees a portfolio of automation projects, ensuring delivery is on time, within scope, and within budget.

Contributes to the growth of TFCU by evaluating and implementing emerging automation technologies (RPA, AI/ML, workflow orchestration, APIs) to drive innovation and efficiency to enhance staff and member utilization of information system capabilities that support Tower’s business objectives.

Defines standards, best practices, and governance frameworks for automation development, deployment, and maintenance.

Responsible for hiring, guiding and developing the Automation Services team to ensure a trained and motivated staff. This position provides performance feedback and institutes remedial actions as deemed appropriate in conjunction with the Vice President of Business Systems and Automation.

Ensures compliance with internal controls, data privacy, and regulatory requirements in all automation initiatives.

Collaborates with business leaders to identify opportunities for process improvement and automation as well as IT to integrate automation into primary systems and processes.

Measures and reports the business impact of automation initiatives, including ROI, efficiency gains, and error reduction.

Prepares the department’s annual budget for review by the Vice President, Business Systems & Automation.

Serves as a subject matter expert and advisor on automation strategy.

Responds to and follows up on auditor and examiner comments and requests.

Monitors performance of existing automations and oversees maintenance, enhancements, and scaling.

Tests and maintains the disaster recovery plan in conjunction with the IS management team. This includes responsibility for ensuring appropriate backup strategies for Tower’s automation services.

Represents Business Systems & Automation in proposals development and reviews of software application enhancements and additions to the Tower infrastructure. Responsible for the management of vendors to include review of new software vendors, and annual review of critical software vendor relationships in compliance with the Information Security Standards and Procedures.

As a member of the Business Systems & Automation Services management team, may be asked to stand in for any of the other ITS AVPs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field with 7‑10 years of relevant work experience.

5 years relevant experience managing complex projects.

5 years supervisory or management experience.

Demonstrated experience leading automation projects from concept through implementation.

Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
