Scheduler/Registration/MA

Garrett Regional Medical Center is looking for a diligent professional to manage patient registration, billing, and administrative support. The role also involves Medical Assistant duties as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Enter demographic, billing, and insurance information into registration/billing systems; scan insurance cards and photo .
  • Provide patients with information concerning insurance, payment of bills, and hospital procedures.
  • Complete managed care responsibilities, including pre‑certification and authorizations.
  • Prepare consent forms, notice of privacy practice, and other required paperwork; obtain electronic signatures.
  • Collect deposits, co‑payments, deductibles, and patient liability payments; issue receipts and document payments.
  • Prepare armband for patient identification.
  • Balance daily receipts and cash drawer; follow up on accounts flagged in the system.
  • Initiate screenings and obtain pertinent information for coverage; complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Perform medical necessity checks; complete Advanced Beneficiary Notice as needed.
  • Schedule, reschedule, or cancel patients according to hospital workflows.
  • Check order completeness and validate orders against scheduled services.
  • Greet and escort patients to exam rooms; prepare for physician visit by gathering initial information and vitals.
  • Assist with or perform immunizations, medicine refills, and ECGs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • State criminal background check and Federal background check as required for regulated areas.
  • Preferred: National Certification as CMA.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
  • Visual acuity within normal range.
  • Manual dexterity to operate keyboards, fax machines, telephones, and other business equipment.
  • Extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
  • Reading and comprehension ability.
Working Environment
  • High volume, fast‑paced environment.
  • Exposure to communicable disease.
  • Frequent interactions with patients, medical staff, and support staff on a continual basis.
  • Standard outpatient clinical environment with very high patient volume.
  • Requires considerable attention to detail, organization, and multitasking.
  • Requires understanding of medical insurance requirements for payment and basic knowledge of covered services.
  • Must be able to provide information on demand, sometimes taking requests from multiple sources.
  • Must work with a variety of personality types and individuals with varying levels of education and communication skills.
  • Fast pace and high energy required.
