Night shift: 10:00 PM – 6:00 AM

Pay: $17.00 – $21.50 base rate plus applicable shift differential

The primary purpose of a Medication Technician is to assist in administering medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the Delegating RN or the Director of Assisted Living, and to provide care for Assisted Living/Memory Care residents according to their needs, in accordance with nursing standards, Fahrney-Keedy policies, and state requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- DRUG ADMINISTRATION & RESIDENT CARE:
Accurately and safely prepare, administer, and document oral, topical, or suppository medications as ordered; complete medication charting per established standards and Fahrney-Keedy policies; follow rules for destroying medications; document discontinued medications; report and document medication receipt errors with observers; hold medications for residents as directed; verify resident identity before administration; ensure proper storage and documentation of medications; provide care within scope of practice;
document patient responses and medication adherence; and ensure orders are written, signed, and dated by an attending physician. - MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION PROCESS:
Follow medication card practices; record order details (type, route, dosage, frequency, strength) in the resident’s clinical record and report any adverse reactions or errors promptly to the Delegating RN or Director of Nursing. - DOCUMENTATION & ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
Complete required forms, charts, and reports; maintain accurate records; communicate changes in residents’ conditions; assist with administrative tasks and ensure documentation compliance. - RESIDENT CARE
ACTIVITIES:
Obtain vital signs and weights as required; verify medication ingestion or application; provide or request nutritional refreshments as needed; assist with or perform certain activities of daily living (dressing, grooming) and ensure residents have necessary aids (glasses, dentures, hearing aids). - SAFETY & INFECTION CONTROL:
Maintain safety precautions; report hazards and equipment issues; follow hand hygiene and infection control practices; participate in safety drills and training; assist in emergency evacuations if required.
Working environment: The work environment is representative of an assisted living facility; reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities. The noise level is typically moderate.
- Works throughout the facility; subject to interruptions;
- May work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays; may work in other positions when necessary;
- Subject to call-back during emergencies; exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious materials;
- May be exposed to difficult or distressed individuals and environmental conditions;
- Participation in ongoing training and safety programs is expected.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident care information and protect protected health information;
- Treat all residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; maintain privacy during nursing care;
- Knock and seek permission before entering rooms; report grievances and incidents as required;
- Respect residents’ rights and report any abuse or misappropriation allegations promptly.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
- Must be a cooperative team member and able to work harmoniously with staff.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when necessary and to interact tactfully with residents, families, and staff.
- Must be willing to pursue new methods and integrate them into practice.
- Must relate information concerning a resident’s condition and not pose a direct threat to others.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Must be a certified Medication Technician in accordance with state laws.
- Must be able to move intermittently; communicate effectively in English; cope with mental and emotional stress;
- Able to see and hear (or use appropriate aids); able to push/pull/move at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and over distances; may assist in evacuations as needed.
