Recruitment and Advancement BonusThe Department will initiate a recruitment and advancement bonus of $5,000 for Paramedics. The bonus will be paid in increments of $1,250 at 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 24 months from the date of hire. Paramedics hired or incumbent employees advanced under this program must maintain their ALS certification (and function in Baltimore County) for a minimum of five (5) years from the date of hire.

- Maryland Cardiac Rescue Technician certificate; OR
- National Registry Paramedic Certificate; OR
- Maryland Intermediate/99 certification; OR
- Confirmation letter of successful completion of the cognitive and psychomotor examination from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for Maryland Intermediate/99.

Responsibilities- Under general supervision, provide basic and advanced life support to sick, injured or convalescent persons.
- Perform emergency and non-emergency procedures at hazardous scenes; administer medications intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously and orally.
- Command a medic unit.
- Evaluate electrocardiograms and perform moves at scene.
- Use patient carrying devices and transfer patients to the ambulance; subdue violent patients.
- May drive ambulance and other departmental apparatus in emergency mode.
- Use light duty rescue equipment; maintain logs and reports; maintain equipment and quarters.
- Participate in specialized training; assist in cleaning and maintaining quarters and station grounds.
- Perform time-sensitive problem solving in stressful environments; may assist in fire suppression.
- Participate in drills and training activities.
- Knowledge of basic and advanced life support; emergency medical care; EMS equipment.
- Skills in basic life support, CPR, patient transport; strong communication and driving skills.
- Abilities to provide advanced life support, command a medic unit, prepare logs, follow rules, establish relationships, stay calm in emergencies, assist in fire and rescue operations, operate vehicles, and solve problems under pressure.
- Must be able to perform duties wearing PPE including SCBA; pass physical examination.
- Must have good moral character; successful background investigation and drug test.
- Possession of required licenses and certificates at time of application; incumbent must obtain additional certificates as required.
- Shift work including nights, weekends, holidays; may be required to work overtime with little notice; must maintain licenses and certifications.
- Work involves heavy physical labor and exposure to hazardous public safety activities.
- Medical examination and comprehensive background investigation required.
