The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $73,569 - $107,068, based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The Office of Eligibility and Support Services (OESS) is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic professional to serve as a Government Assistance Eligibility Specialist III to help us achieve our mission. OESS serves as the point of entry for federal, State, and County health programs targeted to residents of Montgomery County who are uninsured and have limited incomes. The OESS office confirms eligibility for Care for Kids, Prenatal Care, Dental Services, and Project Access specialty care clinic referrals.

This position provides leadership and guidance to GAES I & II staff in determining eligibility for all assistance programs administered by the Family Investment Administration of the Maryland Department of Human Services while also offering instruction on case management, productivity, and case processing. The GAES III assists in facilitating customers’ efforts to access information and partner with public and private service providers to ensure comprehensive support.
Additionally, this position will conduct pre and post-case reviews to assess accuracy, timeliness, and common errors. The GAES III plays a key role in assisting the Supervisor by providing direction, assigning work to staff, and ensuring efficient workflow. This position is also responsible for providing refresher training as needed and resolving complex case issues.
The selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment medical exam and drug screening.
Education:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Experience:Two (2) years of experience as a journey level specialist determining eligibility for government assistance programs (Family Investment, Maryland Medicaid, or medical assistance programs).
Equivalency:An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevance of training, and experience in the following areas:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience determining eligibility for Maryland Medicaid and Family Investment program.
- Professional experience using state or agency automated systems and databases such as MD THINK, Maryland Health Connection, MMIS, or equivalent to determine benefit eligibility.
- Professional experience utilizing Federal and State laws and regulations relating to eligibility to process benefits applications for multiple financial and/or medical assistance programs (SNAP, TDAP, TCA, PAA, MA (MAGI and non-MAGI).
