Medical Lab Technician

Job Description Details

Job Summary: Produces accurate results in hematology, serology, chemistry, blood bank, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology and other areas. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of techniques, principals and instruments and their inter-relationships as well as the physiological conditions affecting test results.

Education: Position requires an associate's degree (A.A), or diploma program, or military laboratory training program.

Registration/Certification/Licensure:

• ASCP, AMT, NCA or equivalent, preferred.
• Registry or Certification is required before performing Blood Bank procedures or working alone.

Experience:

• Position requires 0-6 months related experience.

Other Requirements:

• Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements.
• Effectively communicates with all patient populations and staff by implementing organization-wide communication techniques as a daily practice.
• Effectively advocates for quality patient safety and satisfaction as a daily practice.
• Demonstrated proficiency of computer skills necessary to effectively complete position requirements.
• Previous experience and demonstrated professionalism in effectively communicating with customers and in promoting a positive service atmosphere.
• Ability to work independently in a multi-task environment producing quality work.
