General Summary of Position
Med Star Health is looking for a Case Management Assistant to join our team at Med Star Montgomery Medical Center!
The Case Management Assistant (CMA), under general supervision, provides clerical and administrative support to the Case Management Department. The job duties are performed in a department or area where services are not related to providing direct patient care. Under the direction of the Director of Patient Care Transitions, performs multiple activities that support the movement and transitions of patients out of the inpatient hospital setting.
Assists in the administration of Case Management functions to include, but not limited to, follow‑up with third‑party payers for the appeal status, assists with arranging the patient transportation, delivers Medicare Important Message letters, and other duties to assist the Case Management team. Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with sensitive patient information. The CMA will assist the Director of Patient Care Transitions with clinical, financial, and other reports pertaining to quality patient care.

Primary Duties:- Performs clerical/administrative tasks to support the patient‑focused, efficient functioning of the department. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
- Follow‑up with payors on pending appeal letters. Assist CMs with submitting necessary paperwork to CBO such as CCRF, denial, appeal letters. Fax referral information to facilities. Assist with arranging transportation for patients to facilitate timely. Assist with Medicare Important Message letters delivery. Answer telephonic patient inquiries when the regular administrative assistant is off.
- Assist CM team with admit status changes and communicating level of care and other changes with admission staff. Assist with arranging medications from Med Star Montgomery Medical Center's outpatient pharmacy as directed by case manager. Customer service:
Proactively aid patients, families, and staff; provide responses to queries. Greet and receive patients in a professional, courteous manner. Answer, screen, and respond to all telephone calls. Provide accurate information and referral services. - Maintain current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Maintain knowledge of current best practices and industry standards in security, telecommunications, and first impressions. Identify learning needs and participate in training and development activities. Attend hospital‑sponsored training programs as required by the department. Complete all mandatory requirements within the allotted timeframe for completion.
- Work effectively within and between departments.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1–2 years minimum of 1 year of healthcare experience.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
This position has a hiring range of $18.7 – $32.72.
