Duties
  • You will lead planning and direct execution for large, complex shock modeling and simulation efforts.
  • You will develop, implement, and transition new technologies involving modeling and simulation strategies that improve the ability of ship, components, and personnel to resist the damaging effects of an underwater weapon attack.
  • You will develop, implement, and transition new shock qualification methodologies, acceptance criteria, and strategies for which transient shock analysis is a key element.
  • You will develop and implement shock data analysis techniques and tools.
  • You will defend technical approaches and findings throughout the course of a given task and coordinate technical recommendations through the NAVSEA Technical Warrant Holders and DOT and E oversight.
  • You will provide technical advice to coworkers, top level Navy management and other technical experts in the field.
  • You will formulate research and development work proposals and solicit resources from current and prospective sponsors.
  • You will develop and implement an overarching plan to train and mentor junior engineers to develop and maintain a pipeline of capable people in assigned knowledge areas.
  • You will support the technical authority in development and enforcement of shock requirements and policies.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires participation in tests involving underwater detonation of explosives and must be familiar with and follow Navy and NSWC explosive safety instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • The position requires laboratory work and field test activities include extreme environmental and climatic factors, stooping, bending, lifting of heavy objects, and positioning through spaces aboard Navy ships and test vessels.
  • The position requires good to excellent physical health and qualification for unlimited duty.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-4 pay band (GS-12 and GS-13 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: as a professional engineer leading the technical development for a major shock modeling and simulation program; working with underwater explosions modeling and simulations; researching and developing new modeling and simulation approaches and collaborating on a team project to harden U.S

Navy platforms against underwater explosions.

Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
