Electrical Systems Architect – Specialty Vehicles

Our manufacturing client in Stevensville, Maryland is seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Architect to lead the design and integration of electrical systems within custom-built specialty vehicle platforms.
This is not a validation-only or documentation-focused role. We are looking for an engineer who can architect and own electrical systems from concept through physical integration in a hands‑on manufacturing environment.
Position OverviewThe Electrical Systems Architect will be responsible for defining and leading the electrical design of mobile power systems across specialty vehicle builds. This includes system architecture, power distribution strategy, protection design, component selection, and integration of mission‑critical subsystems.
This role requires confidence in front‑end system design and comfort working closely with production teams in a hybrid shop/office setting.
Key Responsibilities- Architect 12V/24V (and related) mobile power distribution systems for specialty vehicles
- Define protection strategies including fusing, wire sizing, grounding, and load management
- Select and integrate batteries, inverters, DC/DC converters, and communication systems
- Develop wiring schematics, system layouts, and Bills of Materials
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with mechanical, fabrication, production, and field‑service teams
- Support hands‑on integration, troubleshooting, and system validation during vehicle builds
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry and customer standards
- 5+ years of experience designing electrical systems for mobile platforms (vehicles, heavy equipment, defense ground systems, specialty equipment, etc.)
- Direct ownership of system‑level electrical architecture (not validation‑only experience)
- Experience specifying protection schemes, wire gauges, and electrical component selection
- Experience creating and owning wiring schematics and electrical documentation
- Familiarity with integrating inverters, DC/DC converters, batteries, and communication systems
- Comfortable working onsite in a hybrid shop/office manufacturing environment
