Description

Are you interested in staying up to date with the latest technologies and identifying clever ways to integrate cutting edge tools into highly regulated data environments?

Are you excited by the challenge of understanding complex systems and the data that drives them?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join the Software Engineering and Data Transformation Group (KBE).

We are seeking a dynamic, creative, and ambitious leader to help us define and shape the future of weapon system analysis data in the Strategic Deterrence Mission Area.

As the KBE Chief Scientist you will...

  • Work closely with group leadership to define and drive the scientific and technical innovation of the group's data pipeline and software activities. Shaping the future for the data pipeline will be your primary focus area.
  • Serve as a thought leader and advocate for innovation within the group. This includes facilitating generation and submission of ideas for IRADs (both internal and external to the Mission Area) and Project Catalyst.
  • Interface with Chief Scientists/Engineers across the SDMA to socialize KBE innovation ideas and help to develop the innovation strategy/priorities for the sector.
  • Be a technical mentor, aiding staff in developing modern software and data concepts, methods, and architectures to maximize positive impact for our Mission Area and our sponsors.
  • Lead special studies by organizing study teams, establishing deliverables, and collaborating with different groups, program/project managers, and sponsors.
  • In collaboration with the group leadership team, build, maintain, and enhance the group's capabilities by helping develop and execute training plans, identifying tools and facility upgrades, and looking for opportunities for the group to build skillsets and networking through training, conferences, etc. This includes working with the KBE Chief Engineer to manage group training funds.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Have 5+ years of experience working across the entire software development life cycle, including experience in the design, development, and implementation of complex software and data pipelines.
  • Have a track-record of solving complex problems in innovative ways.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Have effectively lead technical efforts on small teams and mentored both new and experienced staff members.
  • Are able to cultivate impactful relationships and work collaboratively within and across teams with different skillsets.
  • Demonstrate the ability to absorb, transform, and disseminate Sponsor challenges into actionable plans applicable to the group.
  • Are willing and able to support occasional travel to meetings and sponsor sites.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a Master's degree or higher in computer science or a related technical discipline.
  • Have experience participating in the IRAD and/or Project Catalyst process.
  • Have prior technical leadership experience.
  • Currently support programs such as Trident II, Sentinel, CPS, SLCM-N, or other strategic deterrence efforts.
  • Have prior experience growing and championing technical strategies.
