A well-established civil engineering firm is seeking a Licensed Land Surveyor / Surveying Manager to lead surveying operations, manage field and office teams, and oversee high-quality project delivery across a variety of public and private sector projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned survey professional who combines strong technical expertise with leadership, client management, and business development experience.
Position OverviewThe Licensed Land Surveyor / Surveying Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work of surveyors and technicians engaged in land surveying activities. This includes determining precise locations, elevations, boundaries, and contours for construction, mapping, utilities, land development, and related purposes. The role also serves as a key client-facing leader and promotes safe, efficient, and compliant survey practices.
Key Responsibilities- Assemble and analyze field data; perform survey calculations and prepare legal descriptions
- Manage and coordinate the work of multiple field crews and technical staff
- Provide quality control and quality assurance for all survey deliverables
- Prepare, monitor, and manage project budgets and billing
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects
- Support business development efforts for surveying services within the local market
- Lead, mentor, and manage survey staff through performance management, goal setting, coaching, and regular feedback
- Represent the organization in meetings, presentations, and conferences with clients and partners
- Promote and enforce safe work practices across all survey operations
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 10+ years of progressive experience in land surveying
- Active Tennessee Professional Registered Land Surveyor (PLS) license
- Strong working knowledge of Federal, State, and local surveying regulations
- General understanding of survey plan preparation using:
InRoads / Micro Station and/or - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
