USMI focuses on developing advanced, innovative and affordable plasma electrosurgical devices for hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and endoscopy centers.
Position SummaryThe ideal candidate must apply practical knowledge of electrical, software or biomedical systems engineering to design advanced medical devices used in electro‑surgical applications while meeting reliability, quality, time‑to‑market and cost goals.
The candidate should cooperate with and utilize both internal and external resources such as sales, marketing, manufacturing, suppliers and vendors productively to meet the goals of this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop innovative and novel medical instruments and systems, from feasibility study through prototype to manufacturing.
- Supervise Engineering R&D activities and report directly to the CEO.
- Provide electrical engineering solutions for new products while supporting existing product lines.
- Build prototypes, test, and analyze performance.
- Calibrate electrical systems.
- Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, contract manufacturers, assemblers, or other support personnel to assist in debugging and optimizing overall system performance.
- MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Biomedical or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of electrical design experience.
- Solid knowledge of high‑frequency analog and digital RF electronic circuit design.
- Experience with Plasma and Cold Atmospheric Plasma and associated HF electrosurgical generators.
- Solid understanding of PCB design best practices.
- Experience with PCB design software tools (Altium, Eagle, Cadence).
- Experience with SPICE simulation programs such as TINA and LTspice.
- Hands‑on experience with FPGA, microcontrollers and embedded system programming.
- Hands‑on experience with simulation tools (Matlab, Math CAD, Octave).
- Programming experience with C/C++ or similar.
- Hands‑on troubleshooting experience using lab equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Experience with using third‑party suppliers to build and assemble PCBs.
- Working experience with medical regulatory bodies (FDA for 510K, UL) applications.
- Working experience with certification labs for UL and other standards.
