Job Description

Coffman Engineers is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with ten to fifteen years of experience. The successful candidate will work closely with our business‑development team and other discipline leads in developing technical proposals and will take a proactive role in marketing and business development. The role offers the opportunity to build and mentor a dedicated team of engineering professionals in a collaborative multidiscipline office and to provide consulting services directly to clients.

Experience with HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and coordination of multifaceted projects is required, along with a results‑oriented mindset and a commitment to high performance standards and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform the following functions:
    • Design of HVAC and plumbing systems
    • Manage and design multiple concurrent projects
    • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings
    • Lead design team efforts
    • Manage project team for budget and schedule control
    • Develop fee and qualification‑based proposals
  • Familiarity with relevant codes: mechanical, energy, plumbing and ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards
  • Reading and preparing project drawings including ductwork plans, piping plans, sections, isometric piping drawings, and bills of materials
  • Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using standard industry programs
  • Able to multi‑task and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment
  • Possess strong critical thinking, organizational, and analytical abilities
  • Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; working knowledge of marketing databases and proposal resources files
  • Conduct marketing/business‑development activities
  • Positive contributor to overall office and department goals, culture, and morale
  • Ability to travel
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering (required)
  • 10 to 15 years of experience
  • Experience with load calculation software
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Project Management experience and/or certifications
  • Desire to lead interdisciplinary projects and project teams
  • Experience with energy modeling is a plus
  • Local AHJ experience and relationships are a plus
  • Active local industry involvement is a plus
Compensation and Benefits
  • Approximate base salary – 100k‑150k based on experience
  • Salary determined based on qualifications and relevant experience
  • Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
  • Competitive end‑of‑year discretionary bonus based on company, team, and personal performance
  • Hybrid work schedule (subject to change)
  • 401(k) with maximum of 5% contribution matching for 9% employee contribution
