Position: Sr. Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Hanover, MD (On-site)
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design projects for power distribution equipment. This role focuses on developing innovative mechanical solutions while ensuring compliance with industry standards and manufacturing requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Lead mechanical design projects for switch gear, switchboards, and power distribution systems
- Develop complex 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings
- Create and maintain mechanical design standards and component libraries
- Perform structural analysis, thermal analysis, and mechanical calculations
- Ensure compliance with UL standards (UL 891/1558) and NEMA requirements
- Design enclosures, sheet metal components, and mechanical assemblies
- Optimize designs for manufacturability and cost effectiveness
- Collaborate with electrical teams to ensure proper electro-mechanical integration
- Review and approve mechanical designs and technical documentation
- Support prototype development and testing activities
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with electrical, manufacturing, and quality teams
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes and product development
- Support manufacturing teams with design changes and process improvements
- Interface with suppliers and vendors for component selection and qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5-8 years of experience in power distribution equipment design or similar
- Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software (Solid Works, Inventor, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of UL standards and NEMA requirements
- Experience with sheet metal design and manufacturing processes
- Understanding of thermal management and structural design principles
- Team leadership and mentoring experience
- Excellent project management and communication skills
- Experience with PLM/PDM systems (Vault Pro, Solid Works PDM)
- Knowledge of FEA analysis software
- Custom engineering and ETO product experience
- Lean manufacturing and DFM principles
- Experience with seismic design requirements
- Understanding of IP/NEMA ratings and environmental considerations
