Position Summary
As a Staff Electrical Engineer (Electrical Engineer
5), you will be a vital member of the ADTECH engineering team and the OTECH group. Your work will involve the development and implementation of complex power and control systems for underwater robotic and electromechanical systems, primarily for U.S. Navy and other DoD customers. Projects are unique, ensuring a dynamic and engaging environment. Design, build, and test operations will be part of your responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead electrical and control system design, supervise and mentor small to medium teams of electrical engineers.
- Generate proper designs from high‑level requirements, working independently with minimal supervision.
- Apply technical judgment, creativity, and initiative with a system perspective.
- Prepare and participate in regular design reviews.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineers to architect working systems.
- Supervise/mentor junior engineers or technicians as necessary.
- Take ownership of results with considerable autonomy, knowing when to seek assistance.
Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or related field with an electrical concentration). Significant commensurate experience may be considered.
- 10+ years of practical technical experience in the complete electrical engineering process: concept, analysis, simulation, design, drawing, assembly, integration, troubleshooting, and testing.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance (active clearances preferred).
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred
- Experience selecting and integrating high‑tech COTS equipment and designing interfaces.
- Knowledge of current and latest electrical and electronic components and wiring devices.
- Experience with embedded microprocessor and SBC based control systems.
- Experience designing, interfacing, translating, and integrating data communications signals (Ethernet, USB, RS‑232/422/485, SPI, I2C, CAN).
- Experience with DC power systems design, system power/energy estimation, and wiring to minimize noise and EMI.
- Strong electrical drawing/drafting skills: schematics, wiring diagrams, cable drawings, block diagrams.
- Proficiency with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, etc.) and CAD/analysis software (Altium, SPICE, AutoCAD, Solid Works, MATLAB, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Additional
- Experience in marine, underwater, or surface industries (ROVs, AUVs, sonar).
- Knowledge of professional and military standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, ISO, NEMA, NEC, MIL).
- Practical technician skills (assembly, wiring, soldering, cabling).
- Experience with fiber‑optics, PCB design, brushless motor drives, robotics, automation, closed‑loop feedback control.
- Experience with low‑medium voltage power systems and machine safety standards.
- Experience with programming or scripting.
- Travel flexibility: up to 1–2 weeks at a time, within or outside the U.S., or offshore on a boat.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role: remote with occasional commuting to a designated office.
Pay, Benefits and Work Schedule
Annualized pay: $130,000 – $175,000. Benefits may include health and wellness, mental health, retirement savings, life and disability, paid maternity and parental leave, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, and an employee assistance program.
