Director of Library and Academic Support Services
The Director of Library and Academic Support Services reports to the Associate Vice President of Innovation, Learning, and Effectiveness and provides operational leadership for the College’s integrated library and Academic Support Center. The Director supervises full- and part-time faculty and staff and serves as a change agent supporting innovation and adaptability in library and academic support services.
This role collaborates closely with ILE departments and campus partners to develop, deliver, and assess cross‑disciplinary, multimodal services that meet the diverse needs of students and other campus groups. Responsibilities include determining staffing needs; overseeing recruitment, evaluation, training, and promotion processes; and ensuring strong support for all librarian faculty and academic staff.
The Director develops and implements assessment measures aligned with federal, state, Middle States Higher Education Commission (MSHEC), Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), and College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) guidelines and accreditation standards. The position also participates in institutional committees and projects, including strategic planning, data collection, and reporting.
Examples of Duties- Lead and manage Library and Academic Support Services; establish goals and priorities aligned with the college’s mission, values, and strategic plan.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, evaluation, and professional development for all faculty, staff, and student employees.
- Determine staffing needs; assign responsibilities; create and maintain data‑informed schedules that ensure adequate service coverage across multiple locations and modalities.
- Evaluate, design, and implement programs and services that enhance library resources, tutoring, and academic support in collaboration with internal and external partners.
- Guide the development, maintenance, and assessment of physical and electronic collections and ensure access to high‑quality academic resources.
- Ensure that staff and tutor training meet national standards; maintain compliance with ACRL, CRLA, and other applicable organizations; provide ongoing instructional support to faculty and staff.
- Collect, analyze, and report data for internal planning and external accreditation requirements; develop and measure student learning outcomes.
- Implement and maintain technologies that support library and academic support operations; oversee updates to department web pages.
- Partner with academic and administrative units to strengthen student support; represent the department on committees and in institutional initiatives.
- Oversee budgets and resources; maintain confidentiality of records; uphold professional and ethical standards, including ALA principles such as the Freedom to Read Statement and the Library Bill of Rights; maintain currency in relevant fields; perform related duties as assigned.
