Position Summary

Kent County Parks & Recreation is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Youth In Action Camp Director for our summer program tailored to middle school students in grades 5-6. This leadership role requires strong knowledge of camp program development and design, as well as exceptional communication and conflict-resolution skills. The Camp Director will oversee the camp’s daily operations, ensuring a safe and engaging experience for participants while maintaining a positive environment for both campers and staff.

Prior driving experience is required for transporting campers in 12- or 15-passenger vans to scheduled activities and field trips.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a nine-week camp structure, including daily lesson plans and weekly special activities.
  • Transport campers in 12- or 15-passenger vans to field trips and activities safely and responsibly.
  • Coordinate field trips, clubs, special events, and presentations.
  • Organize arts and crafts supplies and other program materials.
  • Supervise swimming schedules and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Provide guidance, training, and evaluations for Camp Counselors.
  • Maintain professional communication with parents, staff, and campers, addressing conflicts constructively.
  • Ensure compliance with all camp regulations and operating standards, including those required by the Department of Health.
Position Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Extensive experience working with middle school-aged children.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of camp program design and management.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability for the full camp schedule, including orientation (mid-June to mid-August).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean three-year driving record.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained during orientation).
  • Professional demeanor and character attributes befitting a public-facing position.
Work Environment and Physical Demand
  • Occasional Lifting of up to 25 pounds,
  • Light cleaning, Driving, and Actively engaging in indoor/outdoor recreational activities with participants.
