The College of Liberal Arts of Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, is conducting a search for a full‑time faculty member specializing in the 19th Century United States, with the ability to teach courses on the Civil War era, public history, African‑American history, or other related subfields. The position may be filled at the Lecturer, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor level, depending on the candidate’s education, professional experience, and scholarly record.
The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. by August 2026 and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service to the campus community. In addition to elective courses within their specialty for the history major, the faculty member will teach courses in the Mount’s integrated, sequenced core curriculum, including Atlantic Encounters, and will contribute to the ongoing redesign of the America in the World course.
The teaching requirement for this 10‑month contract is 21 credits between the Fall and Spring semesters. If hired as a Lecturer, the teaching requirement is 24 credits. All faculty are expected to serve the Mount by participating in school and university‑wide committees, advising students majoring in the school’s programs, developing course curriculum, participating in assessment, remaining current in their discipline, and performing other duties as assigned.

SalaryThe salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Final appointment (Lecturer, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and/or tenure‑track) and salary will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and academic rank.
