Visual Information Specialist to support our customers at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Indian Head Division (Stump Neck Annex) in Indian Head, MD. This position will assist with performing a wide variety of visual information functions in support of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Department.
The chosen applicant must be competent in modern desktop publishing techniques, possess basic graphic design skills, and have a thorough understanding of the appropriate applications of various image file formats (BMP, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF). The applicant must demonstrate experience with desktop publishing hardware such as flatbed scanners, negative/slide scanners, digital cameras, flash media, and basic CD/DVD duplication. Experience with printing on large format plotters and printing/binding marketing/educational material (posters, spiral‑bound books, tri‑fold brochures, matting/framing, foam core mounting) is required.
The applicant will be expected to keep multiple tasks on schedule and develop work quickly and accurately.
- Preparing visual information products by utilizing commercial computer software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat.
- Capturing visual information by scanning and converting paper documents into electronic format.
- Converting electronic documents into standard image file formats, such as JPEG and TIFF, and transferring different media files between computer systems or hardware.
- Combining multiple photographs from different sources and at different sizes to produce a single cohesive image.
- Performing image manipulation such as cropping, rotating, scaling, transforming, cleaning, and color balance and color correction.
- Demonstrating modern desktop publishing techniques, basic graphic design skills, and a thorough understanding of both print and web platforms.
- Performing technical photography using modern digital photography equipment.
- Using advanced techniques to batch process visual information in large quantities.
- A bachelor's degree in a technical or arts field is desired but not required, plus at least two (2) years of recent experience preparing visual information for print and/or display in a web environment.
- An associate degree and four (4) additional years of experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree.
- Required to be proficient with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Bridge, and InDesign.
- An active DoD Secret clearance is required to start. The applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Salary at RMC is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, a candidate’s specific combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract‑specific requirements. The current salary range for this position will be $75,000 to $90,000 (annually).
