Senior Accountant - Ridgeley, MD
About the Company and the Senior Accountant Opportunity:
- CFS is partnering with a non profit organization to find a Senior Accountant to join their team on a contract to hire basis
- This position can become permanent for the right candidate after contract period depending on performance and fit within the organization
- Schedule:
Core hours: 8am-4pm M-F, 40 hours per week. Ideal candidate must be willing to work on site 3-5 days per week in Ridgely, MD- Flexible start time and free parking provided!
- Reports to the CFO
- Salary: $60,000-$65,000
Job Duties of the Senior Accountant:
a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb; } tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #; } tr th { background-color: #; }- Ensure the accuracy of financial records by preparing journal entries and performing reconciliations
- Produce monthly financial reports for all divisions and related entities within the organization
- Assist with state, federal, and internal audits by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and ensuring audit readiness
- Reconcile revenue and cash activity from multiple funding streams, including government programs, education services, and donor management systems
- Ensure benefits, program costs, and other expenses are properly allocated across departments and service areas
- Maintain internal control documentation, accounting procedures, and policy guidelines
- Prepare intercompany billing, support government billing processes, and contribute to ongoing improvements within the finance function
- Support payroll reconciliation processes and provide backup coverage for various finance team responsibilities
Qualifications for the Senior Accountant:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related preferred
- 2+ years' accounting experience required. Audit experience highly preferred
- Experience handling accounting for a non profit organization a big plus
- Experience with DDA and/or MSDE highly beneficial but not required
- Experience using Sage 100 and/or Blackbaud Raiser's Edge a plus, but not required
- Strong Excel skills
- Organized, detail oriented, strong problem solving and communication skills
- Able to pass a criminal background check
