Overview
This Registered Nurse (Level I–IV) position is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process in an inpatient hospital setting. The incumbent demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and independent judgment for care provided by self and delegated to other health care providers to achieve quality patient outcomes.
Responsibilities- Lead others in understanding organizational quality metrics, outcomes and improvement activities.
- Participate in scholarly activities, development of orientation and preceptor programs, and departmental quality improvement initiatives.
- Develop recruitment/retention strategies for a multicultural workforce and identify opportunities for collaborative improvement.
- Mediates conflicts, educates, coaches and facilitates use of external resources; mentors others while advancing the profession.
- Partner with organizational leaders to incorporate the development of orientation/preceptor programs.
- Demonstrate well-developed clinical expertise within specialty, design innovative nursing practices, and model expert practice to interprofessional team members.
- Design and support programs that facilitate access and provide appropriate point of service care; advocate for patients, families and peers.
- Advocate for policies that promote health and prevent harm among culturally diverse consumers; advance ethical nursing practice through generation of system-wide policy.
- Required competencies include regular charge nurse and/or precepting new staff or nursing students; participation in QI and shared governance at the organization level.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state (or multi‑state RN license via eNLC).
- Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
- Four (4) years of RN experience if BSN; five (5) years if BSN (or BSN with health‑related master’s).
- Capable of applying expert clinical judgment and assessing patient data across the lifespan.
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or health‑related field.
- Specialty certification in applicable discipline.
- Limit manual patient handling to 35 pounds; use lift equipment and patient handling aids.
- Heavy/Hard work: lift, move, stoop, reach, stand, walk, carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
- Visual acuity within normal range; hearing within normal range.
- Protracted or irregular hours.
- Exposure to biohazards, infectious diseases, and deceased.
- Hands in water; electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
- Level 1: No experience required; all graduate nurses with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one with a diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher.
- Level 2: Meets requirements for previous level; one year of experience.
- Level 3: Meets requirements for previous levels; two years of experience plus one specialty certification; required competency: charge nurse or precepting new staff or nursing students.
- Level 4: Available to those with BSN or higher, or nurses with ADN/diploma with 5 years of experience; one specialty certification required; required competency: charge nurse or precepting new staff; participation in QI and shared governance at unit level.
- Level 5: Available to those with MSN or higher with 4 years of experience, or BSN with 4 years of experience and health‑related master’s, or BSN with 5 years of experience; one specialty certification required; required competency: charge nurse or precepting new staff; participation in QI and shared governance at organization level.
- Level 6: Available to those with MSN or higher with 7 or more years of experience; one specialty certification required; required competency: charge nurse or precepting new staff; participation in QI and shared governance at system level.
