Acute Care & Outpatient Speech Therapist (SLP) - WVU Medicine East - Berkeley Medical Center
Evaluates and treats patients requiring speech-language-swallowing therapy.
Qualifications- Current or temporary Speech-Language Pathologist licensure in the applicable state where services will be performed.

Speech Language Pathologist License OR Limited Speech Language Pathologist License through Maryland Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers and Speech-Language Pathologists - OH:
Speech Pathologists License OR Temporary Speech Language Pathologist License through Ohio Speech and Hearing Professionals Board - PA:
Speech Language Pathologist License through Pennsylvania Board of Examiners in Speech Language and Hearing - WV:
Licensed Speech Language Pathologist License OR Provisional Speech Language Pathologist License through the West Virginia Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology
- MD:
- Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech Language Pathology OR must obtain within 48 months of hire.
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
- One (1) year of speech language pathologist experience.
- Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions and evaluation with an interdisciplinary team approach.
- Evaluates speech, language, swallowing, and cognitive-linguistic needs and develops and implements treatment programs for assigned patients; documents treatments according to department policies and procedures.
- Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient need and available resources.
- Documents all treatments, according to department policies and procedures, as monitored by supervision, through documentation review and consultation with referring provider.
- Performs evaluation of patient response to tasks performed and delegated.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement program of the Rehabilitation Services department with emphasis on speech therapy to ensure timely, appropriate, and cost-effective services.
- May supervise assigned graduate assistants/interns, students and volunteers. Coordinates schedules, approves lesson plans, and provides feedback to students; prepares written evaluations of student performance as applicable.
- Minimal manual lifting; use lift equipment and/or patient handling aids as indicated. Follow Safe Patient Mobility policies.
- Heavy/Hard work: lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
- Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and various cleaning and chemical agents.
