This position performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. The PCT provides high‑quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
- Completion of WVUM Patient Care Technician program OR certified Nursing Assistant (NA) certification issued by the state where services are provided (OH – Nurse Aide through Ohio Nurses Aide Registry; WV – Nurse Aide through WV DHHR Certified Nursing Assistant).
- Prior patient care experience (preferred).
- Prior patient care experience.
The Patient Care Tech‑Certified (PCT‑C) performs nonprofessional direct and indirect patient care activities including personal, physical and comfort needs of patients, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse. The PCT‑C will provide high‑quality patient care in coordination with licensed medical staff.
Core Duties and Responsibilities- Observe and report all patient concerns/changes in condition to a registered nurse immediately.
- Assist the Registered Nurse with admission, transfer, discharge and general patient care duties.
- Record vital signs, assist in personal hygiene and other patient comfort measures; record oral intake and outputs.
- Assist in specimen collection and other activities of assigned patients.
- Assist in indirect patient care by maintaining a clean and safe environment to help prevent and/or control infections and to provide safety for patients, visitors and employees.
- Report all necessary equipment repairs to appropriate personnel according to departmental procedure in a timely manner.
- Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to departmental procedure.
- Communicate with RN regarding any nutrition issues, such as poor appetite or verbalized lack of understanding of diet changes.
- Assist department with administrative tasks to support the department operations.
- Answer patient call bell and relay message to appropriate personnel.
- Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.
- Working closely with others.
- Working protracted or irregular hours.
- Working around biohazards.
- Working around infectious diseases.
- Working with or near the deceased.
- Working with hands in water.
- Working with electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments.
Job Description
Dayshift part time position. Hours are 5 AM – 5:30 PM. Two 12‑hour shifts per week. Scheduled weekly hours: 24. Exempt/Non‑Exempt:
