- Assist the manager/director with interviews, selection and orientation of departmental staff.
- In collaboration with the manager/director and HR determines appropriate levels of discipline up to and including terminations.
- Provide performance feedback to assigned staff including performance appraisals, formal and informal coaching, and Performance Improvement Plans (PIP).
- Conduct monthly staff meetings to communicate information, develop departmental goals, solve patient care and departmental problems, and promote teamwork.
- Encourage professional development of departmental personnel through in-service and external education programs.
- Schedule and adjust staffing to meet patient care needs, considering staff competency, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Inform the manager/director of budgetary needs and manage resources to maintain budget, flexing schedules based on census and productivity.
- Maintain and report departmental information and statistics for administrative and regulatory purposes.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and standards of care for the department, regarding budget and financial issues.
- Follow hospital, state and federal guidelines to ensure a safe environment for workers, patients and the public; monitor staff compliance with safety, security and infection control policies.
- Ensure facilities and equipment for department services are maintained to promote comfort, efficiency and safety for patients and staff.
- Provide clinical services consistent with licensure when necessary to ensure unit/department operates efficiently and effectively.
- Communicate and interact professionally with patients, families, visitors, physicians, departmental and hospital staff, and the public.
- Remain current and responsive to changes in healthcare delivery and regulatory/accrediting standards.
- Provide regular education to staff based on accreditation needs; maintain competency records.
- Assist in developing and implementing processes to assess and improve services and ensure regulatory compliance; report results to appropriate administrative levels.
- Participate in, encourage, and facilitate staff participation in hospital-wide process improvement efforts as needed.
- Oversee and process staff payroll and PTO requests.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing + 2 years nursing experience OR Associates of Science in Nursing + 4 years of nursing experience.
- Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
- State criminal background check, and federal, if applicable, as required for state department of health—based on physical work location.
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing
- Two (2) years nursing experience
