Position OverviewPerforms imaging / therapeutic services and patient care in support of the Radiology Department's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications Education, Certification, and LicensureFor West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
- Radiology Technologist certification through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners or applicable state.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- West Virginia state criminal background check required; federal check if applicable.
For Pennsylvania:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
- State criminal background check required; federal check if applicable.
The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:
- Rotate through all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills.
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols.
- Produce high-quality images using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Select exposure factors considering patient size, condition, and pathology.
- Minimize radiation exposure to all through shielding, collimation, and technique optimization.
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to imaging.
- Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort and hygiene.
- Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about procedures and answer questions.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Engage in problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to ethical, departmental, and regulatory standards.
- Report equipment failures immediately.
- Complete required in-services and competencies.
- Position patients accurately following protocols.
- Coordinate daily workflow.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students within policy guidelines.
- Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed thoroughly.
Must meet physical demands, including differentiating shades of gray, standing/walking for prolonged periods, wearing lead aprons, lifting up to 50 pounds, and carrying items up to 20 pounds.
Work EnvironmentExposure to minimal radiation, airborne particles, bodily fluids, and operation of moving equipment. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.

40-hour week with varied shifts, including weekends, on-call, and holidays. ARRT and WV License required.
