SummaryThe Social Worker is the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Specialist for Housing and Urban Development‑Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD‑VASH) program. HUD‑VASH is an intensive case management program for homeless Veterans aimed at providing psychosocial services to Veterans while residing in stable housing through HUD's Section 8 voucher program. This position provides case management and intervention support to HUD‑VASH in a team‑oriented, recovery‑based program.
Qualifications- United States Citizenship:
Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. - Education:
Master’s degree in social work from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). A doctoral degree may not substitute. - Licensure:
Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s degree level; advanced practice licensure required for GS‑12. - English Language Proficiency:
Proficient in spoken and written English per VA Handbook 5005. - Grade Determinations: GS‑12 requires at least two years post‑licensure experience, with one year equal to GS‑11.
- Advanced practice skills, judgment, and expertise in a specialized area.
- Certification or post‑master training recognized by a national organization.
- Driver’s license:
Current unrestricted state‑issued license required. - Physical Requirements:
Light lifting, use of fingers, walking, standing, vision and hearing competencies; ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Work schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. - Provide ongoing substance use case management and early treatment interventions to promote stability and abstinence.
- Deliver direct SUD services for HUD‑VASH in the medical center.
- Conduct outreach services in the community.
- Provide training to the multidisciplinary treatment team on SUD assessment, anger management, life skills, and co‑occurring disorders.
- Independently conduct intake and needs assessment of homeless Veterans and their significant others.
- Identify symptoms leading to clinical diagnoses of SUD.
- Perform interview, psychosocial history, and SUD assessments to develop treatment plans.
- Develop comprehensive treatment plans addressing homelessness, SUD, and co‑occurring factors within a recovery model framework.
- Work with Veterans to achieve treatment goals and revise goals as needed.
