Overview

Position Math Laboratory Coordinator, Senior

Location Pittsburg campus with some visits to Brentwood campus. In‑person work schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Non‑Exempt (eligible for overtime).

Salary and Hiring Details

New employees will be placed at the first step ($77,748 per year), second step ($81,684 per year) or third step ($85,836 per year), depending on experience. Step increases occur on July 1st each fiscal year until the maximum step ($94,716 per year) is reached. Yearly range: $77,748 (Step
1) – $94,716 (Step
5).

Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate laboratory operations for multiple or large math laboratories.
  • Monitor and tutor students in mathematics and assist in operation of computers and other laboratory equipment.
  • Identify student needs, determine remediation plans, and advise on study methods and learning strategies; monitor progress.
  • Coordinate tutoring services activities; approve time cards.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring department budgets; prepare cost estimates; maintain student billing records.
  • Develop and maintain a reference library and materials for faculty and students.
  • Assist in administering laboratory assignments, exercises, and tests; implement new or modified laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Meet with faculty to align with lesson plans and expectations; monitor software and hardware and report equipment issues.
  • Coordinate workload of multiple laboratories and monitor staff assignments.
  • Assist in preparing instructional aids and conduct statistical reviews of service effectiveness.
  • Promote tutoring services to faculty, staff, and students; assist in selecting and supervising student assistants and tutors; review timecards.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education / License or Certificate
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in mathematics, or the equivalent.

Experience and Training
Three (3) years of responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a laboratory or assisting a college instructor in mathematics. Relevant knowledge includes laboratory equipment, software, materials, supplies and procedures used in a math laboratory; basic teaching and tutoring theory; mathematical principles appropriate to district courses; ERP systems and/or student tracking software; standard business software; and methods for gathering and presenting statistical data.

Minimum Qualifications - Skills
Perform instructional assistance and tutoring; assist students in understanding fundamentals of mathematics; operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment; analyze procedures and suggest improvements; maintain laboratory records; communicate effectively; organize and supervise laboratory activities; maintain professional relationships; prepare clear reports; demonstrate respect for diverse student and staff backgrounds.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience tutoring a broad range of mathematics courses, including statistics and calculus, with student-centered and equity-minded approaches.
  • Experience coordinating a math lab or learning support space, including scheduling and supervising staff or student tutors.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and data to assess services and improve effectiveness.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with faculty and administrators.
