Overview
Library Technician
To perform a wide variety of technical and specialized library clerical duties in a college library.
Responsibilities- Examples of Duties/Essential Functions include: assists students and faculty at circulation desk; charges, discharges and files library materials; processes reserve book and inter-library loan requests; locates material; provides information regarding available library materials; answers routine questions.
- Maintains overdue and debt file for non-students; collects and records fines; issues receipts for lost library materials and debt payments.
- Compiles statistical data; generates computer reports; files statistical data; compiles end-of-semester and end-of-year reports.
- Prepares book orders, requisitions, continuing contract orders and library suborders.
- Assists in monitoring student budget; maintains accurate records.
- Orders, receives and processes library materials; maintains and troubleshoots library equipment (photocopiers, printers, scanners); assists students with equipment usage; arranges for repairs.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Two (2) years of library experience in a technical or paraprofessional capacity, preferably in an academic library.
- Possession of an Associate degree from an accredited college, with major emphasis in library technology preferred but not required, or the equivalent.
- Knowledge of basic library science terminology, systems and technology; standard library practices; library technical processes and software; financial record keeping; library procedures; modern software applications;
English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation. - Skill/Ability to perform responsible and complex clerical work with accuracy; analyze situations; apply basic computer skills; problem-solve; prepare and maintain records; keyboard with accuracy; serve diverse users professionally; establish cooperative relationships; demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Inclusive, welcoming library environment; experience with technology and devices; awareness of diverse collections and equitable access; ability to work collaboratively with staff; empathetic approaches in urgent situations; strong organizational skills; experience in diverse, multilingual settings.
