American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg PCU/Tele travel assignment on a Neuro Trauma unit at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring at least 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience and drip titration skills.
Responsibilities- Acute care hospital setting on a 28-bed Neuro Trauma PCU/Tele unit (5N)
- Level II Trauma Center
- Neuro-focused patient population including strokes, seizures, Guillain‑Barré, Myasthenia Gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA (24 hours post), endovascular neuro specialties, AMS, and dementia; also trauma/ortho patients including hematomas, bleeds, falls on blood thinners, farm and MVA accidents
- Nurse‑to‑patient ratios: 1:4–5 on days, 1:5–6 on nights (dependent on acuity); nurse aide ratios: 1:9 on days, 1:12 on nights
- RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
- RT equipment in use includes ventilators, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO₂
- Telemetry monitoring is centrally located off‑unit
- EMR:
Cerner (transitioning to Epic) - 12‑hour day shifts, 0700–1930
- Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday coverage required (typically 2–3 holidays in winter, otherwise every other holiday)
- No on‑call or standby requirements
- Self‑scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
- Floating required to sister MS units across 6 specialties: mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc
- 13‑week contract
- First‑time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to being considered
- Orientation consists of 1 general orientation shift and 1 shift with a preceptor (8 hours total)
- Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
- Charge nurses take assignments: a full team on nights and a smaller assignment on days
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
- Current BLS certification (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience required, with relevant setting experience within the last year
- Drip titration experience required
- Trach experience preferred; vent experience highly preferred, though facility is willing to train candidates who are open to learning
- 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant specialty experience
