American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13‑week Med/Surg Tele travel assignment on a 7N Ortho/Uro/Neuro unit, requiring at least 1 year of acute care nursing experience and an active WI or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Acute care hospital setting on a 29‑bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit specializing in Ortho/Uro/Neuro patients
- Patient population includes orthopedic trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular (fem‑pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro‑spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OB/GYN oncology, and acute medical admissions
- Nurse‑to‑patient ratios: 1:4–5 on days, 1:5–6 on nights
- Nursing assistants are on unit; during evening and overnight shifts (1900–0700), RNs carry additional responsibility for vital signs and ADLs
- RNs are required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, nitro, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
- Telemetry techs monitor patients 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
- Respiratory therapy support is present; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high‑flow oxygen therapy — no vents
- Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- 8‑hour evening shifts, 1500–2330; rotating 40/32 hours per week schedule
- Available shift times include 0700–1930, 1100–2330, and 2300–0700
- No self‑scheduling; block scheduling is used dependent on staffing
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- No on‑call or standby requirement
- Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
- Trauma Level 2 facility
- Charge nurse is present on all shifts and takes a patient assignment; house supervisor is available on all shifts
- Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1–2 days of precepted floor orientation
- Any color scrubs are acceptable; attire must be clean and professional
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
- Local candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are eligible to apply but are subject to a reduced travel pay rate
- All staff are required to clock in and out at the facility
- Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
- BLS certification (AHA) required and must be active
- Minimum 1–2 years of acute care nursing experience required
- BSN not required
- Two professional references required for consideration: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years of relevant specialty experience
