Description:

The department specializes in Cardiovascular operating room procedures.
There are 16 surgical suites, including 2 dedicated to Cardiovascular Operations.
An average of 28 cases are performed daily.
Common cases include da Vinci Xi lung procedures, open heart surgeries, valve replacements, TAVR, thoracotomy, and peripheral vascular surgeries.
Additional common procedures include c-sections, laparoscopic appendectomies, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, and bowel resections.
The unit has four primary specialties:
Ortho, Neuro/ENT/Oral/Plastics, Cardiovascular/Thoracic, and General/GYN/Urology/Peripheral Vascular.
Scrubbing is required, but RNs are not required to scrub.
A charge nurse or house supervisor is always present in the operating room.
Staffing is available 24/7 with a minimum of one RN and one surgical tech.
The facility uses Cerner as its electronic medical record system.
Primary shifts are day shifts from 0700 to 1530 or occasionally to 1730 or 1930.
RNs typically work one week of PM shifts approximately every 5 weeks.
Night shifts may be available for experienced candidates.
Candidates may choose between 8-hour or 10-hour shifts, with 12-hour shifts available in certain situations.
The weeknight call requirement is 1-2 nights per week until 0700.
Weekend call occurs approximately every 5-6 weekends.
There is a holiday call requirement of at least one holiday annually.
The call response time for the first team is 30 minutes, with subsequent teams having a response time of 45 minutes.
Floating to the outpatient surgery center across campus is required.
Scrub color is navy blue, provided by the facility.
Unit-specific orientation includes 2-3 days with an educator to cover essential topics and several weeks for case learning.
All clinicians must clock in and out while on-site.
