Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Trauma Med/Surg Tele position requiring recent telemetry and drip experience on a night shift schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Work in an acute care hospital on the 5N Neuro Trauma Med/Surg/PCU unit
  • Unit has 28 beds and primarily serves neuro and trauma patients with conditions such as stroke, seizure, Guillain-Barre, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, and various trauma cases
  • Day nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 and night ratios are 1:5-6, depending on patient acuity
  • Care includes titrating drips such as heparin, nitro, diltiazem, amiodarone, 3% saline, and insulin
  • Uses Cerner EMR; transitioning to Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts ), with every other weekend and holiday required
  • Floating required to sister Med/Surg units across 6 specialties as needed
  • Ventilator, trach, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapo Therm, and EtCO2 equipment utilized
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring is located outside the unit
  • Responsibilities include managing complex neuro trauma cases and monitoring patients on multiple drips
  • Charge nurse takes patient assignments on both day and night shifts
  • Nurse aides provide support on all shifts
  • Self-scheduling is available, managed by the unit manager and opened 6 weeks in advance
  • Unit provides one shift of general orientation and one shift with a preceptor
  • Solid color scrubs are required
  • First time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within 80 miles are accepted but at a reduced pay rate
Requirements
  • Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU experience required, with at least one year in the relevant setting within the past year
  • Experience titrating drips and working with telemetry required
  • Experience with trach/vent care highly preferred; willingness to train on vents is required
  • Two professional references needed, including at least one supervisor reference
  • Former permanent staff must be separated from the facility for at least 6 months
