Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a pediatric acute care position requiring a WI or compact RN license, BLS, PALS, and at least one year of pediatric nursing experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 24-bed pediatric acute care unit in a Level 2 trauma hospital
- Typical patient census averages 12, with nurse:patient ratios of 1:3 for total care and 1:4-5 with a nursing assistant
- Patient population includes respiratory, trauma, post-surgical, neurological, behavioral health, and eating disorder cases
- RNs are responsible for lab draws and central line management
- Uses Cerner EMR (transitioning to Epic), with basic arrhythmia knowledge required
- Flexible self-scheduling with 12-hour shifts (7a-7:30p or 7p-7:30a), every other weekend and every other holiday required
- No on-call or block scheduling; highly encouraged lunch breaks
- Floating required to PICU and, if experienced, to NICU; may observe in adult areas based on census
- Responsibilities include providing comprehensive care to a diverse pediatric population, performing laboratory draws, and managing central lines
- Team structure includes RN-to-RN or RN-to-NA pairings with support from residents in-house 24/7 and intensivist on call
- Unit orientation consists of one general orientation day and two days unit-specific
- Department follows a clean, professional, pediatrics-appropriate dress code
- Holiday requirements include working every other holiday and two out of three winter holidays
- First-time travelers and travel duos are welcome to apply, though duos will be scheduled on the same weekends but not always the same shifts
- Reduced rate applies to local candidates living within 80 miles
- Former permanent staff must be separated by at least six months and require hospital approval to return
- Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
- Current BLS and PALS (AHA) certifications required
- Minimum one year recent peds floor nursing experience
- Experience drawing labs and managing central lines preferred
- Basic arrhythmia knowledge required
- Ability to provide two professional references, one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor
