The Purchasing and Materials Manager is responsible for leading all purchasing, procurement, and materials management activities to ensure the company maintains optimal inventory levels, reliable supplier partnerships, and cost-effective sourcing. This role oversees the full cycle of materials management including purchasing, supplier negotiations, inventory control, logistics, and materials planning—to support operational efficiency, cost savings, and on‑time production.

Responsibilities
  • Purchasing & Procurement
    • Develop, implement, and manage procurement strategies to ensure cost‑effective and timely supply of goods and services.
    • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors and suppliers.
    • Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers to strengthen the supply chain.
  • Materials Management & Inventory Control
    • Oversee inventory levels to balance availability with cost efficiency, minimizing excess and obsolescence.
    • Implement inventory management systems, processes, and best practices.
    • Coordinate with production and operations to forecast material needs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and innovation.
  • Resolve supplier issues related to quality, delivery, or service.
  • Monitor supplier performance and maintain scorecards.
  • Logistics & Distribution
    • Manage inbound and outbound logistics to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and finished goods.
    • Oversee warehouse operations and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Lead and develop a team of buyers, planners, and warehouse staff.
    • Collaborate with operations, finance, and engineering to align materials strategies with business goals.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in purchasing, inventory, and materials management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in purchasing, supply chain, or materials management (manufacturing industry preferred).
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Leadership experience with proven ability to manage and develop a team.
  • APICS, CPSM, or similar certification preferred.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen.
  • Results-driven with a focus on cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Skilled in problem-solving and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
