The Optometrist provides and assesses patient needs, then plans and delivers direct eye care and associated services, including education, to patients.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:
  • Performs tests and examines patient's eyes and vision, evaluating each component
  • Analyzes and listens to the patient's description of symptoms, diagnoses the patient's eye disorder, disease or injury
  • Examines patient for symptoms indicative of organic or congenital ocular disorders, and determines nature and extent of disorder or injury
  • Performs various tests to determine vision loss
  • Prescribes and administers medications, and performs procedures, if indicated
  • Directs remedial activities to aid in regaining vision or to utilize remaining sight, writing prescriptions for corrective glasses, and instructing patient in eye exercises
  • Informs the patient of diagnosis and treatment needs and options in such a way that the patient understands and can make an informed decision
  • Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of the patient’s ocular and vision diagnosis and treatment according to QI Standards and standards of care
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required
What you’ll need to be successful:
  • Doctorate Degree in Optometry (OD); three (3) years clinic experience
  • Current license to practice optometry in WI
  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making, analyze medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel, and establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co‑workers at all levels
  • Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens
  • FCP complies with all CDC vaccine and testing recommendations for healthcare professionals. Proof of immunizations is required and immunizations/testing provided upon hire.
Preferred qualifications:

FQHC or Native American clinic experience preferred
