JOB OPENING: ROAD & BRIDGE SUPERVISOR
The Saline County Commission is accepting applications for the full-time, exempt position of Road & Bridge Supervisor
. This leadership role oversees all operations of the Road & Bridge Department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance of county roads, bridges, and drainage infrastructure. Salary is negotiable based on qualifications

The Road & Bridge Supervisor provides daily leadership, coordination, and oversight of county road and bridge operations. The position is responsible for supervising staff, managing workflow, maintaining equipment, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting long-term infrastructure planning.
QUALIFICATIONS- Valid Class A or Class B CDL (air brake endorsement preferred)
- Extensive experience operating heavy equipment (graders, excavators, dozers, dump trucks, backhoes, skid steers)
- Strong knowledge of road construction, road maintenance, gravel shaping, asphalt repair, snow removal, and drainage systems
- Experience installing culverts, ditching, and managing water flow
- Ability to read and interpret maps, site plans, and construction documents
- Proven supervisory experience with strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather and physical conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred
- Report directly to the Saline County Commissioners
- Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate department staff
- Oversee road projects including grading, ditching, culvert installation, and surface repairs
- Ensure compliance with county, state, and federal policies and safety standards
- Manage equipment operation, maintenance schedules, and inventories
- Maintain accurate reports and documentation
- Collaborate with the County Commission on planning, budgeting, and citizen concerns
- Respond to emergency situations such as flooding, storms, and road closures
- Lead all departmental safety compliance and training programs
- Enforce all county safety policies and procedures
- Conduct safety meetings, site inspections, and hazard assessments
- Ensure employees maintain required certifications and training
- Keep accurate safety records, including incident and corrective-action logs
- Promote a strong safety culture with proper PPE and safe equipment operation
- Operation of heavy equipment (graders, dozers, excavators, dump trucks)
- Maintenance of gravel and chip-seal roads, pothole repair, and grading
- Installation and repair of culverts, drainage structures, and ditch systems
- Snow removal, salting, plowing, and emergency response
- Inspection of roads, bridges, and drainage infrastructure
- Setting up traffic control and safe work zones
- Performing or overseeing equipment repairs and preventative maintenance
- Communicating effectively with landowners, contractors, officials, and the public
