Overview
Primary Care Oakwood Clinic – Gretna, LA (NOPS - New Orleans Physician Services). Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant, Full-time.
As a Medical Assistant, you’re on the front line of care. You provide clinical and non-clinical assistance to physicians, providers and licensed staff in the management of patient flow and the environment of care, including answering phone messages, scheduling and authorization of procedures and surgeries, deliveries, and covering other duties within the scope of non-licensed staff.

Your EverydayGeneral Duties
- Clinical
:
Measure and record vital signs, identify abnormal values, and report findings to the appropriate nursing staff or medical provider. Assist with patient arrival and departure, schedule new and follow-up appointments, and support smooth clinic flow. Recognize emergencies and respond per organizational policy. Provide for patient comfort considering age and special needs. Maintain clinic equipment, prepare and test equipment for safety, and clean/disinfect between patients and at clinic end.
Stock exam rooms and prepare/secure laboratory specimens as needed. - Documentation
:
Document in the patient medical record per department guidelines. Navigate the Electronic Medical Record to obtain results, outside records, update demographics, and schedule follow-ups. Prepare safety reports when warranted and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality. - Professionalism and Support
:
Demonstrate honesty, promptness, dependability, courtesy and respect. Keep clinic managers informed of activities, requirements, and problems. Manage patient and co-worker complaints calmly and report daily. Maintain patient confidentiality. - Safety and Infection Control
:
Apply standard and transmission-based precautions per policy. Ensure patient safety during visits. Report safety hazards to the Clinic Manager. Participate in Quality Improvement processes, including QAPI and EOC Rounds. - Clerical Support
:
Gather clinical documentation for review by the medical provider. Obtain medical records from outside facilities as needed. Scan outside correspondence into the EMR. Answer telephone calls and route appropriately.
- Minimum:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent, or 2 years of relevant work experience. - Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
