Optician – Lapalco – Sign on Bonus
Ochsner Health invites you to join our team as an Optician at the Lapalco campus. This position offers a $2,500 sign‑on bonus for qualified candidates and competitive benefits including health, dental, 401(k) and paid vacation. You will assist patients in selecting, fitting, measuring, adjusting, and repairing eye wear, provide contact lens education and care, and maintain accurate patient records.
Responsibilities- Assist customers with eyeglass and contact lens orders.
- Make repairs, adjustments, and basic maintenance to eyewear.
- Document patient and order information.
- Provide excellent customer service and education on product options.
- Review prescriptions to ensure accurate measurements.
- Place contact lens prescription orders and order office supplies as needed.
- Adapt communication style to respect patient privacy and meet individual needs.
- File online insurance claims for eyeglasses and contact lenses.
- Perform contact lens fitting, insertion, and removal.
- Complete additional duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- 1 year of related optical experience (required).
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong decision‑making and delegation skills with strict confidentiality.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate multiple assignments in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform advanced optician duties.
- Knowledge of filing vision material claims electronically (e.g., Eye Med, Spectera, Davis Vision).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to satellite locations as needed.

Medium work requiring the exertion of 20–50 pounds occasionally or 10–25 pounds frequently. The job may involve walking, standing, or pushing/pulling light materials. Exposure to blood, body fluid, or hazardous medications is minimal, and there is no occupational risk for communicable diseases.
