. Plumbing Technicians perform repair and preventive maintenance duties of plumbing systems and associated fixtures. Skills and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- 4+ years of trades experience with emphasis on industrial, commercial, and institutional plumbing application
- Proficient written communication and record keeping skills
- Experience in basic carpentry, wall/floor tile, ceiling, and roof construction
- Strong mechanical ability
- Knowledge of plumbing system maintenance, repairs, operational principles and control strategies.
- Knowledge of common federal, state, and local codes and regulations pertaining to maintenance and operation of plumbing systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades including lock-out tag-out, fall protection and use of personal protective equipment.
- Read and comprehend work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, check lists, equipment operations and maintenance manuals, specifications, material safety data sheets, equipment prints and diagrams, sketches, floor plans and controls sequences of operations.
- Calibrate, maintain, and install mixing valve and water heater controls. Perform troubleshooting of natural gas and electric water heater and food service booster heater controls. Use multimeter to perform testing of fuses, heating elements, thermostats, temperature sensors, and other electrical components associated with domestic water systems.
- Operate computer programs used in tracking and executing preventive maintenance work and programs. Offer suggestions for improvements to work control automation strategies to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the repair and maintenance program in the field.
- Ability to work in cramped spaces for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks in spaces with temperature extremes.
- Ability to work at heights using ladders, scaffolding and aerial work platforms such as Scissor lifts, and telescoping push around lifts.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Must also have the ability to stand, climb stairs, bend and kneel for extended periods of time.
