Department Overview

The cardiac department has 36 beds. Patient population includes cardiac and CVA patients, post‑op day 1–2 CABG, pacemaker, bradycardia, tachycardia, SVT, AFIB, acute MIs, PCI, fem fem bypass, CEAs, and more. The unit also manages step‑down (IMCU) patients, providing exposure to critical care and bridging toward ED and ICU roles.

How You Will Contribute
  • Perform plan‑of‑care interventions including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Document patient care and monitor, record, and communicate patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living: personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and psychosocial support.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patients and families and provide education appropriate to age, culture, and circumstance.
  • Advocate for the physical and emotional well‑being of patients.

Qualifications
  • Michigan RN license; associate degree required (bachelor’s preferred).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS‑HCP) certification.
  • IMCU cross‑training (within 1 year).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (within 1 year).
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) (within 1 year).
