As a Respiratory Therapist working on the UPHSM team, you will provide professional and compassionate respiratory care to your assigned patients. This essential role will be responsible for both routine and critical respiratory care functions for patients of all ages. There will be opportunities for you to grow as a leader as you teach patients and staff about procedures, resources, and therapies.

You will be joining a cohesive team of individuals with many different skillsets which can provide you the opportunity to learn and grow. Respiratory therapy includes many different areas of study and specialization, you will be asked to acquire and preserve at least three of these specialty areas including:
Sleep Lab;
Pulmonary Lab;
Hyperbarics;
Vent Clinics;
Inter-hospital Patient Transports;
Infant Sleep Screens/Reflux Testing;
Metabolic Studies; SNF Respiratory Services;
Equipment Processing, and more.

Required Skills

• Given the unpredictable nature of healthcare, there may be rare instances when you will be asked to contribute more or less time than you are traditionally scheduled for.

• Graduation from an AMA approved course in respiratory care
• Associates Degree or equivalent

Preferred Experience

• One year of experience including adult critical care

Required Certifications/Registration

• Current Michigan Respiratory Therapist Licensure
• Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider Certification
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) –OR-
• RRT Eligible and
• Takes NBRC’s RRT exam within 6 months of hire date AND
• Obtains RRT credential before completion of first year of employment –OR-
• CRT Eligible and
• Takes NBRC’s CRT exam within 6 months of hire date AND
• Obtains CRT credential before end of first year of employment AND
• Takes NBRC RRT exam within 18 months of hire date AND
• Obtains RRT credential before end of school year of employment
