Description
Responsibilities- Maintains established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environment of care, management of information, and infection control standards.
- Utilizes excellent customer service skills at all times.
- Complies with federal and state law and accrediting and licensing agencies at all times, to include but not limited to, JCAHO and federal compliance regulations.
- Performs procedures in assigned section(s) for patients of all age groups:
Chemistry, Client Services, Cytology, Decentralized Testing, Donor Services, Flow Cytometry, Hematology, H istology, Laboratory Clerk, Management, Management Support, Microbiology, Pathology, Reference Lab, Serology, Special Chemistry, Specimen Processing, Transcription Services, Transfusion Service. - Assumes responsibility for accurate test results based on independent judgment of test methodology, proper specimen collection, proper use and maintenance of equipment, interpretation of quality control data and knowledge of conditions affecting test results.
- Assumes responsibility for call.
- Performs patient phlebotomy on patients of all age groups.
- Assists with orientation and training of personnel and students.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and professional conferences.
- Participates and attends meetings and in services as required and/or assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications Required Registration: C urrent ASCP or equivalent registry as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Lab Specialist
-OR- registry eligible for Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Lab Specialist
-OR-Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical science that, at a minimum, includes 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses
-OR- 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours of chemistry; 6 semester hoursof biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
