- Early Christian trajectories in Scriptural interpretation: how early Christian theologians, exegetes, and ecclesial writers interpreted, defended, and employed early Jewish and Christian texts
- The use of the New Testament within Christian spirituality, including its role in the writings of Christian mystics and in the development of various spiritual and devotional traditions
- The theological appropriation of the New Testament, focusing on how systematic/dogmatic and moral theologians have drawn upon the New Testament in shaping doctrines, ethics, and theological method
- Interdisciplinary approaches that bring the Gospels’ portrayal of Jesus into conversation with Christology and New Testament ethics, exploring how these domains inform and illuminate one another
- The reception of the New Testament in Christian art and material culture, examining how visual, musical, and literary traditions have interpreted, embodied, and transmitted New Testament texts across history
Marquette University values scholars who bring methodological breadth, theological creativity, and historical sensitivity, and who can contribute to the department’s mission of faith-informed academic inquiry. The successful candidate will show promise of excellence in research, a commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching, and openness to contributing to Marquette’s Catholic, Jesuit tradition.
