Senior Environmental Chemist – Marlborough, MA
KOMAN Government Solutions, LLC (KGS), a wholly‑owned 8(a) subsidiary of the Natives of Kodiak, is an Alaska Native Corporation that provides environmental investigation, remediation, munitions and explosives of concern support, operations and maintenance, long‑term monitoring, and construction services to clients.
We have an immediate need for a Senior Environmental Project Chemist to support a diverse portfolio of DoD, USEPA, federal agencies and private sector projects. The position can be full or part‑time depending on availability and is a hybrid role reporting to either the Marlborough, MA or Exton, PA office and may consider remote candidates.
Responsibilities- Serve as principal contact for all chemistry‑related activities and manage internal chemistry support requests.
- Mentor and oversee part‑time data validators and additional chemistry staff; assign work and review their deliverables for accuracy before client Tassa.
- Manage laboratory products, identify when validation assignments need subcontracting, and monitor subcontract compliance with project requirements.
- Provide proposal support: survey and identify preferred environmental analytical laboratories, request price proposals, and secure competitive pricing.
- Support UFP‑QAPP and work plan development: verify chemistry section, analytical methods, preservation, bottleware, QA/QC sampling frequency, and compliance with junior staff work.
- Resolve chemistry‑related client or regulatory comments on plans and reports.
- Coordinate laboratory procurement: develop scopes of work, procure labs, and manage coordination before and after sampling events.
- Audit laboratory operations as needed.
- Review laboratory data reports for completeness, correctness, sensitivity, and conformance with the UFP‑QAPP.
- Validate data: apply DoD and USEPA guidelines, ensure validation meets UFP‑QAPP, and review junior staff validation reports.
- Manage analytical data in NIRIS, USACE chemistry databases (FUDSChem, ERPIMS, EDMS), and state databases.
- Implement and monitor corrective action plans when required.
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Environmental Chemistry (Master’s/remove preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of experience supporting federal projects.
- Expertise in chemical data quality management of environmental analytical data and familiarity with industry‑standard procedures for data verification and validation.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Commercial environmental analytical laboratory experience.
- Experience validating data using current DoD QSM requirements for explosives, perchlorate, PFAS, PCBs, and routine environmental methods.
- Experience on DoD, USEPA, and other federal agency projects and/or state environmental or health agencies.
- Experienceほ directing and mentoring junior staff or chemists.
