Job Summary:
We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with a focus in Psychiatry to provide care in our 22-bed adult inpatient psychiatric unit at Marlborough Hospital. As part of a multidisciplinary team, the NP will be responsible for conducting psychiatric evaluations, diagnosing mental health conditions, prescribing medications, managing treatment plans, and collaborating with psychiatrists, social workers, and nurses to provide comprehensive care.
This role also involves participating in the development of care protocols, patient discharge planning, and patient/family education.
The Nurse Practitioner will work closely with the Medical Director and other members of the psychiatric team to ensure the highest quality of patient care, safety, and compliance with all regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of patients, including history-taking, mental status exams, and diagnostic assessments.
- Diagnose a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, and addiction-related disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, focusing on pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Prescribe psychiatric medications and monitor patients for effectiveness, side effects, and any necessary adjustments.
- Participate in daily treatment team meetings, providing input on patient care and treatment progress.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
- Support patients and families with education on psychiatric conditions, medication regimens, and recovery strategies.
- Provide ongoing management of patients, ensuring continuity of care through discharge planning and follow-up.
- Ensure documentation of patient assessments, progress, and treatment plans is complete and accurate in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Stay current on best practices, treatment modalities, and advancements in psychiatric care.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and quality assurance processes to improve patient care and outcomes.
- He/She will also act as an expert witness for court cases involving civil commitments and guardian ships
Qualifications:
- Education: Master s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Licensure: Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Massachusetts.
- Certification: Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is required.
- Experience: Prior experience in psychiatric settings is preferred, including inpatient care, medication management, and crisis intervention.
- Skills:
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills in psychiatric care.
- Ability to develop and implement comprehensive treatment plans.
- Proficiency in prescribing medications, including psychiatric medications.
