Overview
Histology Manager – Marlborough, MA
Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Pay range: $102,500 - $145,000 / year
Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

- Precisely and accurately performs and supervises the performance of routine and specialized histology techniques and procedures.
- Optimize IHC protocol, reagent and supply inventory management, IHC study documentation and reporting, and training of colleagues in IHC procedures.
- Provide direct bench supervision for the daily technical and clerical workload.
- Maintain standard operating procedures, quality control and approved quality assurance.
- Maintain the department and manuals ready for inspections on an ongoing basis.
- Manage a group of Senior and bench level technologists as well as lab aides.
- Ensure Histology and IHC groups produce quality work on a timely basis while adhering to all policies and procedures mandated by state, federal and regulatory agencies.
- Perform all administrative duties related to the department including scheduling, evaluations, writing policies, validations, disciplinary actions, etc.
- Manage day-to-day histology operations for a 24/7 department.
- Oversee staff of direct and indirect reports.
- Microscopically review discrepancies found on daily Quality Control (QC) and abnormal reviews, making recommendations to senior technologist for revised interpretation if necessary.
- Monitor technologist compliance with department quality assurance program and maintain proper documentation of technical and clerical errors.
- Ensure inspection readiness and full compliance.
- Provide technical feedback to staff regarding performance, document corrective action, and review cases at bi-headed scope as deemed necessary.
- Review follow-up data and make recommendations to Director for revised interpretive criteria as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and other regulatory standards.
- Schedule staff effectively to meet turnaround time commitments and deadlines.
- Document counseling of employees for performance deficiencies.
- Delegate responsibilities to staff to assure effective workflow and proper cross-training.
- Ensure proper hiring and orientation of new employees, personally supervising pre-employment testing procedures and department orientation.
- Disseminate information to staff regarding changes in policy and procedure affected by the management team or Medical Director.
- Participate in the safety training program and ensure staff are properly trained.
- Review performance of staff implementing progressive discipline when necessary.
- Motivate staff to perform both quality and quantity of work to professional standards.
- Minimize department costs by approving vacation requests, reducing absenteeism, controlling overtime, and operating within budgetary guidelines.
- Maintain a department environment that promotes cooperation among coworkers.
- Demonstrate professional ethics and promptly report suspected errors that might impact patient care to the Department Director or Operations Director.
