Overview
Agency Compliance Safety Engineer in the Engineering Services team, supporting new product development projects and operational initiatives to ensure safety compliance, cost efficiency, factory transfers, or replacements of end-of-life components.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with new product development and continuing engineering design teams to ensure electrical and mechanical designs comply with applicable safety standards.
- Ensure safety-critical components meet the minimum regulatory requirements of the safety standards.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Asia Pacific teams to gather samples and documentation for Agency Certifications (e.g., schematics, drawings, owner’s manuals, labels, model numbers) and prepare for submission.
- Create project test plans based on product designs and applicable safety standards.
- Perform hands-on testing in the lab or supervise technicians to complete testing activities in a timely manner.
- Gain qualifications with certification organizations to submit test data under third-party programs for the US and Canada.
- Adhere to the guidelines in the compliance laboratory quality management system.
- Prepare agency submission packages and assist technicians with tests and questions related to Safety Standards.
- Request quotes and open projects with certification organizations as necessary.
- Align testing and certification schedules with program schedules; track and report progress weekly.
- Coordinate with certification agencies to align on test standard interpretations as needed.
- Review and respond to questions about testing with engineering teams.
- Review product rating labels, instruction booklets, and packaging to ensure compliance with safety standard marking requirements.
- Create and prepare Agency Release Notices (ARN) to enable production readiness; maintain follow-up emails to keep projects on schedule.
- Receive certification according to program schedules for the Beauty / Health & Homes and Housewares categories within the Helen of Troy Satellite Program; comply with applicable standards (e.g., UL, CSA families listed in the original scope).
- Maintain and ensure all components are tested and submitted for annual evaluation.
- Follow the Helen of Troy Quality Management System for Safety Agency Compliance requirements and stay current on standards and certification changes.
- Ensure instruction manuals, carton artwork, and graphics meet test standard requirements.
- Collaborate with NPD on DFMEA and DQTPS when required; oversee laboratory work activities and perform hands-on work when needed.
- Contribute to creating or updating internal Engineering Test Methods (ETMs).
- Able to communicate clearly, accurately, and concisely with team members.
- Provide clear and concise details when documenting testing performed.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines.
- Associate’s degree in an engineering field.
- 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment performing tests according to safety standards.
- Solid experience with MS Office and Windows-based software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment.
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Experience working with Safety Certification Organizations and in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
In Massachusetts, the standard base pay range for this role is $82,170 - $90,000 annually. This base pay range is specific to Massachusetts and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries vary based on location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range is one component of the total compensation package.
