The Senior Program Manager will lead cross-functional teams in the Surgical Division to deliver new medical devices and systems from concept through launch, including expansion of existing products and support of on-market products. This role is accountable for achieving cost, schedule, and performance targets; ensuring adherence to design controls and the Product Development process; coordinating Design History File (DHF) transfers; and providing clear status updates to senior management and key stakeholders.
The incumbent may be asked to perform other function-related activities as reasonably required by business needs.
Responsibilities- Lead cross-functional teams in the Surgical Division to deliver new medical devices and systems from concept through launch, including expansion of existing products and support of on-market products.
- Accountable for achieving cost, schedule, and performance targets; ensure adherence to design controls and the Product Development process; coordinate Design History File (DHF) transfers; provide clear status updates to senior management and key stakeholders.
- Perform other function-related activities as reasonably required by business needs.
Technical & Domain Knowledge
- Strong understanding of new product development (NPD) processes for medical devices, including design controls and regulatory expectations.
- Solid engineering fundamentals, with a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of medical device industry standards, quality systems, and design history file (DHF) requirements.
- Familiarity with portfolio planning concepts and project prioritization in a regulated environment.
Project & Program Management Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of project and program management methodologies, frameworks, and best practices (PMP certification preferred).
- Understanding of PMO structures, governance, and standardized tools/templates (project charters, risk registers/RAID logs, Gantt charts, Work Breakdown Structures, communication plans, etc.).
- Knowledge of budgeting, financial tracking, and cost management for complex projects.
Project & Program Management Skills
- Proven ability to lead small and large NPD projects from initiation through completion, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closure.
- Skilled in defining project scope, tasks, schedules, resource requirements, and dependencies.
- Proficient in creating and managing project plans, risk registers, Gantt charts, RAID logs, and other PM documentation.
- Strong capability in tracking and reporting project status, including development and maintenance of program metrics and key performance indicators.
Analytical & Organizational Skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate risks, issues, and trade-offs and make sound recommendations.
- Exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
- Ability to coordinate and drive resolution of service delivery issues, aligning internal owners and timelines, and translating those into clear external communications.
Communication & Stakeholder Management Skills
- Clear, concise, and influential communicator with the ability to present complex project information to executives, cross-functional teams, and clients.
- Skilled at facilitating meetings (onboarding, kickoff, status, pre-meetings) and ensuring effective communication plans are in place and executed.
- Ability to initiate proactive discussions with stakeholders to align expectations, address concerns, and build strong relationships.
- Competent in preparing regular client performance reports and making analytics/metrics readily accessible to all stakeholders.
- Ability to lead diverse, cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, commercial, quality, regulatory, etc.) toward shared objectives.
- Capable of mentoring and guiding other program and project managers, as well as training cross-functional teams on PMO tools and best practices.
